Theres no better time to start than right now.
For starters...... Go to carbibles.com Click "10 tips to improve your fuel economy" Theres more than 10 given.
Good reading material. Should be a breeze adopting some of the techniques. It works wonderfully for me.Try it.
Well wishes on economising.

I think what most like to know is what I did?
A word of caution.I did this for the benefit of my not so deep pockets , the way I drive and to lower the impact of my ride's "carbon footprint".Results will differ for everyone else.
Drafting - Follow behind a vehicle.Prefebably a larger vehicle.Such as coaches, vans, lite trucks,SUVs.Safe following distance is a MUST.You'll still get the benefits even at 30 meters behind.Don't follow dumpsters and cement trucks or you'll get debris on your windshield.
Reason - The vehicle infront serves as a "wall".Pushing the air which causes wind resistance. What you'll get between the vehicle and you is still air with a lot less resistance. So, less energy to move your vehicle - less fuel consumed and a good reason to travel slowly.
Just don't tailgate and don't break the law.

I am now on 30W engine oil. My consumption is somehow higher.. averaging 9.8km/L. The engine ate some oil too... Lucky I checked... loss some 600ml of oil. Couldn't find any leaks from under the car.. No oil pool at the carpark either. Think will go back to 40W oil.
Will try the drafting technique... though a bit intimidating not being able to see whats in front.
My tip, although not recommended, only do it when its safe... to coast to traffic lights in neutral when traffic is light.. I know its dangerous since you dun have engine braking. When reaching the light then i drop a gear and use both engine brake and brakes to come to a stop.

actually that is what i do all the time..i have the habit of braking at neutral gear and not using engine brake..
my consumption is pretty high i guess..full tank can go abt 300km before red bar..
and when i mean full i really topped up till the brim and i make sure i cant put in any more petrol..lol

Info that I got is that all engines after 1994 onwards that use fuel injection utilise fuel cut-off systems that injects no fuel when coasting in gear and foot off the excelarator. You can feel the engine dragging and slowing down.Fuel savings there.
Full tank - 300km?I think the engine has turned from a sipper to a gulper. I need only half that amount. Its probably the engine management systems biting the dust.Or I might as well be wrong here.

Other things I did.
Pulse and glide. Good when in traffic jams, stop and go,stop and go situations.Simply put, move off slower than the vehicle infront.Creating as much space as possible. You'll be moving, slow but constant ,with little or no stopping. The bad side to this is that it can't be done here in Singapore.Other drivers will immediately take up that space.
Hypermiles or Hyperkilometers Techniques. When stopping at a traffic light.Switch off the engine.Switch on when moving off. Park at a gradient.Using gravity to move the car.Switching on the engine when in motion. Speed up before going uphill. While giong up,the car will use less engine power because of forward momentum created earlier.
Gadgets I used. Previously used HHO systems. But took a heavy toll on batteries and alternator. Now everything is in pieces gathering dust. Water injection is little easier. But with no pump to inject the water,I'm left with engine vacuum suck water.Lots of fine tuning.Too little - no effect.Too much - hydrolock.

By the way, to ensure the full benefits of fuel economising, one should not just do a single technique but a combination of techniques.Practised on a daily basis to a point that it becomes a habit.
These are only a few that I did.If done right, fuel milage can be doubled or more.

Hmm... I get around the same milage. Averaging 10KM/L. Better to use engine braking otherwise will wear out the brakes prematurely. Loudness, you get incredible consumption man! d**n good actually. How much are you averaging? I am too used to aircon now... can't drive in the hot sunny days without aircon man! actually that is what i do all the time..i have the habit of braking at neutral gear and not using engine brake.. my consumption is pretty high i guess..full tank can go abt 300km before red bar.. and when i mean full i really topped up till the brim and i make sure i cant put in any more petrol..lol

Recently i can only do like 10km/l.. probably because i on the aircon more nowadays .. usually reach 310km and left with 1 red bar left.. and 95 grade fuel also raised back to $1.6 per litre.. now cannot full tank with less than $40 haizzz

1 bar! I wonder how much further it can travel with 1 bar.. I don't dare to go below 3 bars in total.
Coz the fuel gauge is not very accurate. Sometimes it will go 1 bar higher and the next glance its lower.

Gauges are never 100% correct. One needs to know how much to compensate and react accordingly. No two gauges are same and results will differ.
After many times reloading the tank.I still get the same milage.Averaging 17s to 19sGive or take a few kilometers.
This is what I did. I never top up to full tank. Its either around 1/2 or 3/4 tank.Usually 1/2. And this is true about topping up early mornings and late nites. You'll get denser fuel.Moving off gently.Changing gear quickly to highest possible gear.Crusing at "granny speeds".Never "kept up" with traffic.Avoiding congestion.Stayed away from city driving.Maybe cuz of "red plates".
What else. Aircon temp setting at 3/4.Fan speed at low.Hardly used the rear aircon. When alone its just front windows 1/2 open.Tyres at 37 psi. Before moving off, sprayed water on air filter.Wating for chance to switch to K&N.80% evening and night time driving.Day time driving unless really really need to. I never think rushing.Just happy thoughts..........bunny rabbits................and taking your own sweet time getting there.
Just stop reading my posts if you're gettin bored with my contraversial nonsence.
Later................................................
