Hafei Jack, fully extended "Official" Jack Point as per Owner's Manual Either I made a mistake in jacking up the Minz - or this Van is nothing better than a Luncheon Meat Tin Can !!!!

Hafei Jack, fully extended Jack Point as per Owner's Manual Either I made a mistake in jacking up the Minz - or this Van is nothing better than a Luncheon Meat Tin Can !!!! From the few photos you attached, we can see that your MinZ is badly rusted, I recommend that you get the dented section beaten back at any workshop and ask the mechanic to check and touch up the undercarriage rusted sections with 'special' black paint whichever area possible. My MinZ was panel beaten plus paint spray, by Stars Auto at Ayer Rajah Cresent. Since you are staying in area nearest to sea, West Coast, I recommend you send your MinZ for Tuff Kote rustproofing. Salt content in the air near coaster areas are normally higher and will corrode cars faster. I experienced the corrosion in my old ride when I was staying in Pasir Panjang area, the car corroded badly just after 6 months.

Hey Wong, i got the same exact damage as yours in around the same area. Mine was dented thanks to Century Auto mechanics lah.. Correct me if i am wrong, most car's jacking point is around that area near the side skirt. So the mechanics assumed the same for the MinZ and positioned the jack pad right there. It crushed the vertical part. That part wasn't meant for jacking. From the second photo, the inboard side is aluminium while the outboard side is the plastic side skirt. As a result my side skirt was distorted. Complained to Ah Yiow and he asked the mechanic to try and knock and straighten the body work as much as he can but the side skirt is permanently damaged and doesn't conform nicely with the body line. I now jack the vehicle up along the I-beams. You can see the beams in the third photo. The painted silver beam that has got the black engine mount brace bolted on. The supplied jack is too short and unstable when fully extended like in the 1st picture. Just find a thick block of wood and chuck it in the boot to give it that extra boost to lift the car off the ground.

I crawled under the Minz,..looked around,..no rust - touch wood
What I don't comprehend is that
1. How can a sub-standard vehicle like this even pass the LTA homologation' process ? Was there some "coffee$$" involved in the approval of this vehicle to be sold in SG ?
2. How can even a simple jack NOT be compatible with the vehicle model ?
3. Official Jack Point - why so soft ?
Are there anyone out there - keen to dismantle my Minz,..and re-build and reinforce,..usinf better materials ?
Thanks

LOL... yub.. i did the same act as well... but this time... it is at Vertex Workshop!!!
It was a pretty funny situation... picture this!
1. My brother and I decided to check the spare wheel at the Vertex workshop as they were convincing us to change the wheels. The mechanic (i think he was new to Vertex) and both of us don't know where it is! After a few minutes of searching (the mechanic do not dare to ask the other experienced guys), we later realised where it is and located it for the mechanic.
2. We took it out and the mechanic seeing the car lifting devices are all occupied decided to jack the car up. as he was doing the rotation, we were pretty amused at why the Minz did not even bulge or move up...
3. So when we reached the max for the jack... we were stumped! It is still the same! The mechanic now looking silly and embarrased... blamed the jack for not big enough for the Minz... hehehe...
4. Then he went and asked one of the experience guys (we could see the experienced guy was laughing his wit off!) and came back with the jack that use the pumping type for a lorry size type of car. Now... these are the mechanics that are serving us!!! hmmm... do you still think i should go back to vertex for my Minz problem?

if you hafei is over the 1 year warranty don't bother unless its the things that are under 3 yr warranty.
i send to them for my speedo problem.they wanted to charge me 380 for replacement.i told them nvm, i go do myself.
30 mins later he call say the boss can give discount.so they charge 260.i tell them straight forward still expensive and i even told them i go to them so many times and pay so much.

now the problem is i am taking them via towing ... so i am planning to take to Vertex because of the 3yr warranty (i think) but then again... my hunch is take it to the local workshop and let them take an honest and frank look at the car and then we assess together (this is something Vertex needs to have to instill confident).

3 year warranty is useless.. it covers practically nothing..
i once had to overhaul my engine.. they quote me $2000 even though engine is covered by 3 year warranty.. but they told me.. cause u overheated the engine so not covered... EXCUSES!
If u need a workshop i believe most of us have our own workshop to go to, i usually go to :
Siong Motors Address: Blk 12 Sin Ming Industrial Estate Sector B #01-51 Telephone :64537188
Look for the boss called Sunny
or
Kuo Li Auto
Address:Blk 5035 Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 #01-363 Telephone :9694332
Look for the boss called Alvin

Hi Guy, Let me give u an advice on the Hafei Minz jack. Frankly, if you are observant enough the safety working load is only 750kg and our "BABY" weighs min. 1000Kg. which unladen say 1050Kg. For safety reason, kindly use 2 jack to support the jacking / Lifting it. Base on engineering , each jack will take up 550kg( x 2) = 1100Kg & that meet the safety woking load of each jack (750Kg). For safety, kindly pull your handbrake if possible place stepper wedge at the both wheel end to prevent it from rolling back in case the hand brake failed.

Sadiq For your speedo meter, advisable to get it done by agent for this time : 1) Your inspection is due, and you must get the speedometer works before inspection due and your road tax due on 24/7/2010. You need ample time at least one month to get these done earlier. 2) The ECU may need some resetting, we are not sure, only they know. 3) They will provide 6 months warranty on your speedo after installation. I hate to go to them as well, but come to critical components, sometimes outside workshop also [glow=red,2,300]'scared scared'[/glow]. Mr Ho is one hard to deal with but his bosses may be negotiable and they have promised to reduce prices for Hafei owners. So now you still get $260 instead of $380. Looks like they have reduce manhours by 2 or $120 or no charge for labour.

Yes, i am driving a 1.3 and current mileage is 59k , i ended up doing top overhaul at my own workshop for $430. What caused it according to the mechanics is i overheated it. Most likely during my wonderful road trip to cameron and genting highlands in my MinZ in a span of 2 days.

Hi Derrick May be it was mainly due to your Penang Trips, long distance with less stop overs . Some tips I learnt from organised autoventure trips: 1) Use ethylene glycol based coolant, it prevents water tank dry up. 2) Nitrogen filling for all 5 tyres to keep tyres cool 3) Stop over to cool down your engine every 1.5-2.0 hrs. 4) Do a pre-trip inspection before a long distance trip, including oil changes

For my trips, i would do inspection and servicing before heading out. Usually i would drive 2 hour shifts and 30mins rest before heading off again. High chance is the stress going up genting, had to engage gear1 and drag all the way to the top. Cameron was much more smooth and gradual compared to Genting. I will probably try out the Nitrogen filling if i ever go on another road trip again
